It is necessary for the practitioner to withdraw his thought from things as they appear to be and to think independently of any and all existing conditions. No one can hope successfully to practice this science unless he is able and willing to do this.
Is this not an act of faith? Most certainly it is. And so is everything else in life. We have faith that the laws of nature will work. We have faith that when we plant a seed it will produce a plant. We have faith that the law of gravitation will hold everything in place. The only thing that we are adding to this faith is a realization that all natural laws are rooted in Divine Intelligence, that natural laws are Divine Intelligence operating. Our own word, affirmation, prayer or faith is another one of these natural laws operating in the field of consciousness.
The practitioner withdraws from the contemplation of existing circumstances, and without contending against them, actually creates a new set of circumstances through consciously reversing the law that produced the conditions which ought to be changed. If his mind dwelt only on things as they appear to be, he would never demonstrate beyond that appearance and everything that happened would merely be more of the same thing.
